What is Innovate-A-thon?
Innovate-A-thon is an intensive two-week innovation sprint (with an initial week of light preparation) where 15–25 students from diverse academic backgrounds and universities collaborate virtually in 3–5 teams. Together, they explore, ideate, create, and demonstrate solutions to pressing societal, environmental, or economic challenges.
All student-driven innovation remains entirely owned by the participants, and every student receives a modest scholarship for their contributions.
Why Should You Participate?
True Innovation Experience: Innovate-A-thon provides invaluable experience, uniquely preparing students for careers in innovation by fostering creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration.
Build Strong Networks: Students connect with industry mentors, subject matter experts, and potential sponsors—creating opportunities akin to a "mini career fair."
Industry Exposure: Industry members get a first-hand view of talented students through a collaborative experience that mimics a senior design project—compressed into just two weeks!
All collaboration takes place on IAT’s REMO platform, allowing students from all over the country to participate.
The Upcoming Innovation Sprint: Advanced Recycling and Sustainability
The IAT innovation sprint will span the first three weeks of January and will focus on Advanced Recycling and Sustainability. There are many pathways for exploration and much need for new solutions. Be a part! Develop a technologically and economically viable solution!
Recent IAT innovation sprints explored economically viable above the knee prosthetics for developing regions. Read more about it here.
Innovate-A-thon themes are selected by nationwide votes, with Advanced Recycling and Sustainability recently emerging as the most pressing focus, beating out topics such as closed-loop agriculture, water reclamation, and pedestrian safety. These other themes will be explored in future IAT sprints.
