Innovate-A-thon Club Officially Established at Boise State University!

We are thrilled to announce that the Innovate-A-thon (IAT) Club has officially been established at Boise State University (BSU)! This exciting milestone marks a new chapter for IAT, bringing innovation, entrepreneurship, and collaboration directly to students on campus.

The club was founded by Noah Young and Oliver Macdonald, two Boise State students who participated in our IAT Internship Sprints and were inspired to bring the program to their peers.

Empowering Students Through Innovation

Noah and Oliver recognized the impact of IAT’s hands-on approach to solving real-world challenges and wanted to create a dedicated space for students to develop their skills, collaborate, and connect with professionals.

Noah Young shared his experience:

“The Innovate-A-thon program has been a major part of my academic journey—challenging me to solve complex problems, collaborate with peers from diverse backgrounds, and develop real-world solutions. These experiences have shaped my passion for engineering and sustainability, fundamentally changing how I approach challenges. My appreciation for the program and the opportunities it provides inspired me to help establish the IAT Club at BSU—creating a space where students from all disciplines can learn new skills, take on meaningful challenges, and connect with industry professionals. Looking ahead, I know that these experiences will help me work with teams and develop effective solutions in my professional career!” - Noah Young

Oliver, saw IAT as an opportunity to support students in developing critical entrepreneurial and technical skills:

“When I first started my startup, I had to build entrepreneurial skills from scratch, learn how to pitch ideas, navigate business challenges, and turn concepts into viable products on my own. Through the Innovate-A-thon program, I saw how it could provide students with a structured, hands-on way to develop these same skills in a collaborative environment. That’s why I wanted to help start the IAT Club—to give students ongoing opportunities to refine their entrepreneurial mindset, prototype innovative ideas, and gain real-world experience as well as skills relevant to current industry requirements. By working alongside the Innovate-A-thon program, I hope this club will not only empower students but also help grow the startup and entrepreneurial community in the area, creating more opportunities for innovation, mentorship, and future ventures.” - Oliver MacDonald

What’s Next for the IAT Club at BSU?

With the club now officially in place, students at Boise State will have access to:

  • Hands-on innovation challenges

  • Industry mentorship and networking opportunities

  • Skill-building workshops

  • Collaborations on real-world projects

This is just the beginning! The IAT Club at Boise State University aims to expand its reach and become a hub for students looking to engage in meaningful, impact-driven innovation.

We couldn’t be more excited to see where this journey leads and how Boise State students will continue to shape the future of innovation through IAT.

Learn more about Innovate-A-thon at www.iat1.org. IAT matches students from across the country with problem statements that impact society, environment, and economy. This occurs through focused, three week sprints in which 12-15 students participate in teams of 3-5 to create technically and economically viable solutions. Past examples include regenerate agriculture optimization, low cost prosthetics for developing regions, and advanced recycling. All participating students receive a scholarship, industry realizes viable solutions, and students expand their career network. Visit www.iat1.org to learn more.

Innovate-A-thon is a nonprofit organization. There is no cost to universities or students to participate. All costs, including student scholarships, are funded through donations, sponsorships, and grants. All sponsorships go directly to IAT sprint costs.
